Batteries are important. In fact, they are vital for
running the camera and getting the shot.
Historically in New Zealand camera batteries have been of a
very low standard. On most shoots you will find a 435
camera package worth over a quarter of a million dollars
plugged into what is essentially a couple of car batteries
wired together.
Not only are they big and heavy, but they are unreliable
and camera assistants have no way of knowing how much
charge the battery currently holds.
When I was a camera assistant this drove me nuts. It was a
crazy and frustrating situation. When shooting on the top
of a hill or in a remote location I always had to carry
several of these big heavy batteries onto set, because
inevitably one would always go flat at the critical time
with no warning.
When I was working on international TVC’s with top european
or american focus pullers, they couldn’t believe it. The
standard New Zealand batteries were a joke.
I decided that something had to be done. I talked to many
international assistants, and decided that the Lentequip Camera Batteries were the
best.
Queenstown Camera Batteries was born.
